Pursuant to Rule 54 of the Montana Rules of Appellate Procedure (below), direct appeals from district court decisions involving money judgments, domestic relations, or workers' compensation claims are subject to mandatory mediation. The Clerk of the Supreme Court administers this process which has historically reduced the number of appeals actually heard at the Supreme Court by approximately ten percent.
