Supreme Court Justices: There are seven Supreme Court justices in the State of Montana. The Court Administrator's Office provides two training sessions each year. Each justice must complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing judicial education each year.

District Court Judges: There are 22 Judicial Districts in the State of Montana and 51 District Court judges; two Water Court judges; and one Workers' Compensation judge. The Court Administrator's Office provides two training sessions each year. Each judge must complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing judicial education each year.

Courts of Limited Jurisdiction: There are 69 city court judges and 65 justices of the peace -- with 34 of those judges serving as both city court judge and justice of the peace, and 11 municipal court judges for a total of 111 limited jurisdiction judges in Montana.  Pursuant to MCA 3-10-203, MCA, the Court Administrator's Office is required to provide two mandatory annual training sessions for all elected and appointed limited court judges. All limited court judges are required to attend both training sessions. Each judge must complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing judicial education each year.

All newly elected or appointed limited court judges shall take and pass a certification test within six months after taking office; and shall take and pass a certification test every four years thereafter.

Commission on Courts of Limited Jurisdiction: This committee develops all training curricula for limited court judges. The committee generally meets the third Friday of each month with the exception of July and December.

Judicial Education Committee: This committee develops all training curricula for District Court judges, the Water Court judges, the Worker's Compensation judge and all Supreme Court justices. The Committee meets at the call of the chairman, approximately four times per year.
