Judge John Kutzman
Judge Kutzman finished high school in Bozeman when his father returned home after retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He then attended the University of Montana where he majored in political science and minored in Soviet Studies. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1987.
In 1991 he received his law degree with honors from the University of Montana School of Law. Following law school he clerked for the Hon. Terry N. Trieweiler of the Montana Supreme Court.
From 1992 through 1997 he was an associate with Thueson & Lamb in Helena, Montana. In 1997 he moved to Great Falls to be closer to his future wife, Jean and to practice with Dorsey and Whitney LLP. After working as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Montana, he manned the Great Falls office of Paoli Kutzman, P.C. from 2005 to 2015.
In June of 2015, Governor Bullock appointed him to finish the term of retiring district judge Kenneth R. Neill. In addition to his criminal and civil case load, Judge Kutzman also presides over the Eighth Judicial District Juvenile Drug Court.
In his spare time he enjoys hiking, sailing, landscape and sports photography, and playing trumpet in the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra.
