SUPREME COURT

Performance Measures - This report provides baseline data from three additional performance measures which focus on case processing and related timelines. These “snapshots” give the Court the opportunity to identify where delays in case processing are occurring and to target specific delays for decrease to the extent possible.

Case Load Statistics - Each year the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court compiles statistics related to cases filed before the Montana Supreme Court. Compiled on a calendar-year basis, the most recent statistics are for the previous year just concluded. Below are the statistical reports prepared for 2012. Pro Bono Final Report - The Pro Bono Reporting process is managed jointly by the State Bar of Montana and the Office of the Court Administrator through its Statewide Pro Bono Coordinator. The Statewide Pro Bono Coordinator was responsible for compiling and analyzing the data. This report summarizes the results of the 2012 pro bono reporting year (fiscal year ending November 30, 2012). Pro Bono Reporting is conducted in conjunction with the annual Interest On Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA) certification. IOLTA reporting is mandatory pursuant to Rule 1.18 of the Rules of Professional Conduct. Pro Bono reporting is voluntary.

Bar Survey - The purpose of the anonymous on-line survey, which is conducted every other year, is to ask District Court judges, appellate attorneys, and law school faculty how they think the Court is performing.

Employee Survey - As part of its performance measurement system, the Supreme Court has adopted a self-administered employee survey as one of its measures. This measure is defined as the percent of employees who say that they are positively engaged in the mission and work of the Court and believe it is a high quality workplace.


 

DISTRICT COURT

District Court Statistics - Statistics for the District Courts, starting in 2007, are produced through the Central Court Repository, maintained by the Supreme Court Administrator’s Office. In 2007, the District Courts were in the middle of a transition to a new, modern case management system so statistics were gathered from the legacy case management system and the new case management system. Performance Measures - This is a report of the recommendations of the District Court Management Advisory Committee (DCMAC) for the adoption, implementation and integration of a court management tool system for the Montana District Courts.

Workload Study: The District Court Workload study measures the number of judges needed to adequately manage the caseload in an individual judicial district. The numbers are based on a time-study conducted in 2006 by the National Center for State Courts. The Workload Study, updated each year, sets the standard for resource allocation in the District Courts.

Youth Court Reports - Current and Historical data of the progress of Youth Court's in Montana

Treatment Court Report - This report analyzes drug court data collected by the Office of Court Administrator from May 2008 through September 2020. The data confirm that Montana drug courts provide a strong investment in the recovery of drug and alcohol dependent persons involved in criminal, child abuse and neglect, and juvenile cases.

Racial Equity Study Report - The Council of State of Governments (CSG) Justice Center today released an analysis of racial equity in the Montana criminal justice system, examining American Indian and White defendants in particular. The findings point to a need to collect additional data and further analyze sentencing placements for felony criminal endangerment and public order convictions.
